As a resident of Buffalo Springs Lake for about 14 years, having a home there, and being a lake girl before that, I can say I have been a part of the community long enough to see what is "normal" for the lake and how that differs from management of a community or natural resource outside of the lake.
I've always wondered a group of people would allow the influence of one or a few to go along with things that go against their morals or defy logic and reasonable resolutions. I personally know many of the people involved over the years and after reviewing the historical information collected, this still remains a mystery to me. I had a lot more faith in people doing what was right because it was right or that as an individual we would not be persuaded so easily.
The lake management or elected officials, whether it is through the so called "Village of Buffalo Springs Lake"(Village) that is within the jurisdiction of the Lubbock County Water Control and Improvement District (District), being transparent and proactive is not high on the priority list. It is a confusing set up and I wonder the validity of most of what has even been done. All I can do is share the information that I have collected and maybe it saves someone more time than I wasted or maybe it helps another make sense of things enough to make a real change. That was my initial goal but quickly saw that I cannot do it on my own and there was a lack of motivation for others to step up.
